Darragh McGee finished very strongly well up in the U16 race finishing 2nd in the chasing group sprint.

Unfortunately David Gaffney and Cal Tutty came down in a high speed crash in the closing 500m of the U14 race but happy to report both are ok albeit a bit sore. 🚴🚴🚴🚴🚴🏼‍♀️

Bob Troy Summer Series Week 4

The penultimate night of this year's summer series was another super night for cycling with warm sunshine and light winds. A change in format this week, switching to the Whitechurch circuit and a predict your time competition. This gave competitors the option of going flat out or take a more leisurely approach while still having the chance to win on the night. It was decided to award the Joe Fitzgerald Memorial Trophy to the rider closest to their time thus making it an all inclusive event🏆
Competition was fierce and some very close times were predicted and achieved, though some were way too enthusiastic and miles out 😊
Fastest rider on the night was Conor Coleman followed by Aidan Connell with Alan Gibson in third place. However Alan Gibson was closest to his time by 2 seconds and will be awarded the much coveted Cup at next weeks prize giving. Congratulations Alan🏆 Alan also has a full house in the A4 catagory and leads that group, can he make it 5 out of 5 next week?
Damien Travers was closest in the LC racers by 33 seconds. Michael Curran got full marks in the LC grouping with Pádraig de Búrca and John Campion also on the scoreboard.
Alice Fitzgerald had a great spin and was only 24 seconds off her target in the female catagory🚴‍♀️
Kyle Walsh was closest in the A3/Junior catagory followed by Alan Lyons and Mark McGarry. David Gaffney was most accurate in the Juniors with Cal Tutty 2nd and Darragh McGee 3rd. Well done to all who took part and we look forward to next week's competition. 🚴‍♀️🏁☀️

Great season opener for DCC Junior Riders Mark McGarry and Kyle Walsh🚴🚴

What an opener for Mark McGarry and Kyle Walsh. The lads travelled to Newcastle West for the Michael Shields Road Race in Limerick.

Kyle got caught in a crash on the first lap but managed to get back on and finished well up in the main bunch finishing 12th in a large field and putting down a marker for season to come.

Paul O’Connell the Newcastle West Cycling Club rider attacked very shortly after the start and put in an 80km solo breakaway ride to win the race.

However the excitement was behind and in the bunch sprint Mark’s trade mark sprint ensured the honours in the gallop for DCC to take 2nd overall in the A3/Junior Race from Christopher Donald (Team Madigan CC) 3rd, Liam Crowley (O’Leary Stone Kanturk) 4th and and Daniel Yon Hin (O’Leary Stone Kanturk 5th.

Great result for Mark and Kyle who will undoubtedly produce exciting results in the year to come. 🚴🚴

Registration is now open for the penultimate night of our very successful Summer league. This week we switch routes and format. Each participant will be asked on registration to predict how long it will take them to cycle the 20k route starting at Frahers Tool Hire to the Welcome Inn turn and home the Bog road finishing on Boreenarue (the link Road before Waterford Crystal)

In a twist to our league the winner of the predict your time night will receive the Joe Fitzgerald Memorial Cup.🏆This is a much coveted trophy and currently resides with last year's winner Mark McGarry. This year the winner will not necessarily be the fastest rider on the night but the rider with the most accurate pace, thereby giving everyone a chance This will give an inclusive and fun element to the night. The only condition for entry is that you have to have ridden at least one night of the league. Catagory winners will still be applied to overall totals.

League commences from 6.45pm, starting times will be advised Wednesday night please adhere to Covid 19 restrictions.
No garmin or watches permitted…

Bob Troy Summer Series Week 3

The weather Gods were kind once again this week and Thursday evening was the warmest in a while.☀️A moderate South westerly wind was very welcome to keep the riders cool. This is the last week of the speed trial on the coast road as next week we switch to a predict your time and a more leisurely approach can be availed of! 36 riders lined out for this week's league and competition was again fierce!

Conor Coleman was on fire again this week and romped home in a time of 28:49. Well done Conor on a fine performance.
Our junior riders are performing strongly each week with David Gaffney still heading the group, Cal, Darragh and Max all cycling consistently.
Mark McGarry retains the lead in the A3/Juniors though Kyle and Dylan are hot on his heels each week.
The ladies are battling hard with Elia still leading the field, Carol and Alice are flying the flag for the leisure groups!🚴‍♀️
The A4 category remains unchanged with Alan Gibson still in control, Gerry Lattimore and Anthony Dwyer also recording great times.
The Limited competition group has good numbers each week. Eamon Phelan holding on to the lead with Johnny Byrne and John Campion improving each week.
All 3 of the lads in the LC racers cycled at a blistering pace and only seconds separated them.
Many thanks to our fantastic volunteers again this week, Mike, Michael, Anthony, Ann, Eoin at the start line, Nora, Frank on the finish line, Liam, Kevin, Stephen, Tom, Niall, Rory, Joe, Declan, Karen and Ann out on the course and the motorbikers Tom x 2 and Lar Thank You!

Thanks again to our sponsor Maurice of Bob Troys & Co for his generous support of our league and to all our riders without whom we would have no event!

Details of next week's starting line and registration will be posted on Sunday. See you all next week.🏁🚴‍♀️☀️👏
