HODGE TAKES ROUND 1 OF SUMMER SERIES 11th May 2017

Round 1 of the O Mahoney cycles Summer Series took place on Thursday last and on a night that was far from summery 34 riders signed on over the 4 groups. Racing was fast and furious in all the groups and even though it was cool there was little or no wind to slow the groups. The A3 and A4 group came together just before the turn at Kilmac with the A1/2 group catching these around halfway between Griffins garage and the five X roads. The pace was very fast at this stage with speeds of over 55 kph being reached as the first group was in sight. The catch was made just after the turn back the coast road heading for the finish. A few attacks along this road did nothing except send riders out the back and the big group reached the bottom of the climb to the line together just after Marc Flavins last gasp attempt to jump clear was caught. The sprint to the line was hairy at times but as the hill went on the group thinned out. At the finish John Hodge took the win from U14 rider Mark McGarry with Shane Power in 3rd. So an excellent nights racing and the timekeeper Frank Browne got it just right on the night. Thanks to Frank for sign on and running the event and to all the motorbike marshals for ensuring the riders had a safe passage. Thanks also to our lead car drivers and finally thanks to our sponsors Tony and Siobhan O Mahoney from O Mahoney cycles. See ye all again next week, same place same time!

O Mahoneys Cycles Summer Series

Round 6 (23rd June 2016)

A strong wind made racing tough at the final night of the O Mahoneys Cycles Summer series, but at least the rain held off. 28 lined up for starters orders down from last week with the National championships taking away some of our regulars. As usual the pace was fast in all groups especially the scratch group who had their work cut out for them to catch all ahead.
But as with most other rounds this summer it was nothing to them and not long after Kilmacthomas it was all together. At the finish Conor Hennebry took another win to cement his overall title and ensure he took the Joe Fitzgerald cup. Well done Conor.

Results round 6:

1: Conor Hennebry Aquablue

Thanks to all the members who helped out driving lead cars. And a big thank you to all the moto drivers who ensure the safe passage of the riders each week. Finally thanks to the photographers who capture the action each week.

Round 5 (16th June 2016)

The change in the weather didn’t deter the numbers turning up for this weeks round of the summer series. On a cool and very blustery evening 43 riders signed on making it one of the biggest rounds in recent years! It was great to see so many women taking part tonight also. 4 groups were on the road tonight and the scratch group had their work cut out for them having to make up nearly 10 minutes to the first group. All the groups were strong and worked well together but the catch was made and the last three groups came together on the road between Griffins garage and the five cross roads. The pace was very fast at this stage touching 60 kph at times with constant attacks going off the front and riders going out the back with each surge in speed. Just after the turn for the finish the front group was caught and the attacks continued as the win was up for grabs and the table was very close at the top. However no attack stuck and a large group fought out the finish up the hill with Conor Hennebry taking win number 3 from Martin O Loughlin and so cementing his position at the top of the leaderboard. So its all to race for next week in the last round to decide the destination of the Joe Fitzgerald memorial trophy. See you all next week for the 7pm start.

Round 4 (9th June 2016)

On a mild balmy night 26 riders signed on for round 4 of the summer league. 3 groups set off at different intervals and this week the catch was made with the scratch group catching the first group just before Kilmac and catching the other group just after Griffins garage. This set the stage for plenty of attacking from the fast boys on the run into the finish with Conor Hennebry taking the win from Stephen Murray at the finish, his second so far this year in the series. Round 5 next week, same place same time, see you there!

Although the numbers were a little down it didn’t take from the racing with each group working well together and only 2 of the groups joined up before the finish with the first group only being caught by the A4s at the bottom of the finish hill. The next two groups came in together not far behind! Anthony Dwyers racing the Ras last week paid off with him taking the win from Patrick Power and Richie Halpin. See ye all next week for round 4.
